- originally developed by the Medical Research
Council in the UK
- samples at 700 L/min for rapid acquisition of
likely bacteria that may be present
- has 4 horizontal slits in top of sampling unit to
evenly spread samples over surface of 6 in
diameter Petri dish
- sampled air is drawn over agar plate on a
rotating plate
- sampling normally takes 5 minutes to collect 3500
liters
- Petri dish then incubated for 24 hours at 98 °F
(37 °C)
- bacteria are then visible (if present)
- can be counted to determine concentration
- extension hoses available if required for remote
operation
- rugged and proven design
