Casella Sampling Accessories - for personal sampling pumps

Overview of some of the more popular air sampling accessories
  • Typical filter cassette
  • available in either 25 mm (1 inch) or 37 mm (1.5 inch) diameter
  • 3 part cassette with end plugs to keep filter clean before use
  • ensures minimum handling to keep filter clean
  • red plug and blue plug to keep out air until ready for use
  • take out plugs when in use and put back the other way round to show cassette has been used

Part # FM403 - 37mm filter cassette
or Part # FM405 - 25 mm filter cassette
  • Cyclone adapter
  • designed to separate particles out to obtain the respirable fraction (<4 microns)
  • larger size particles are drawn into cyclone and are deposited into the dust pot at the bottom due to their weight
  • smaller respirable size particles are drawn upwards onto the filter
  • available with either 25 or 37 mm filters
  • use with pump set to 2.2 to 2.5 L/min flow rate
  • manufactured from anti static plastic to prevent particles from sticking to the cyclone body and hence not being weighed at the end of the run

Part # 116000B Cyclone head
  • IOM head
  • the IOM sampling head can be used for a wide variety of applications
  • 25 mm diameter filters should be used in this sampling head
  • can be used with various PUF filters to separate out the total, thoracic and respirable dust fractions
  • can obtain two different fractions of the dust at the same time
  • made from conductive plastic

Part # P109009A IOM head
  • Asbestos head
  • plastic cassette 25 mm diameter supplied already fitted with a filter in the top end of the tube
  • filter is gridded to assist in the counting of asbestos particles when sent for analysis at a laboratory
  • manufactured from conductive plastic to ensure all the particles are trapped on the filter

Part # P110004 Asbestos head
  • PUF filters
  • polyurethane foam filters with different porosity and size
  • enable the different fractions to be separated out to get simultaneous measurements of two concentrations at a time
  • can be used to obtain the PM10 and PM2.5 fractions when used for environmental surveys
  • can be used with 4 micron filters for respirable measurements
  • can be used with the Microdust pro for outdoor measurements

Part # 151280B/K1 kit with P118204, P118206 & P118208 PUF filter packs
(10 of each PUF filer per pack)
  • Low flow adapter
  • use this adapter when flow rates below 800 mL/min are required
  • can set the flow rate down to 5 mL/min
  • shown here with constant pressure controller at bottom and sorbent tube attached at top
  • adjust flow to required rate using needle valve shown at top at end of hose

Part # P109032 Low flow adaptor with
Constant pressure controller
  • Gas bags
  • these are used together with a personal sampling pump to collect a sample of the air for later investigation
  • select the bottom of the range flow rate on the Apex pump (800 mL/min)
  • connect the gas bag to the outlet port on the pump
  • start the sampling and when the bag is full the pump will shut off automatically
  • seal the septum (valve) on the bag and use a hypodermic syringe to extract samples of the air for analysis

  • DryCal (Defender calibrator)
  • use this accessory as a primary source of calibration to check the flow rate selected in a sampling pump
  • improved version of popular DryCal units (not available after Jan 2007)
  • 2 models 510/520 for basic or enhanced features
  • 3 versions available in each model for low, medium and high flow ranges
  • 5 mL/m to 30,000 ml/m flow rates
  • clean operation no bubbles or water used
  • very convenient and easy to use
  • quickly calibrate the flow and make adjustments to the pump if necessary

Part # Defender 510 or 520 L, M or H
  • Rotameter
  • this accessory is used to calibrate the flow rate of the pump
  • read the flow rate from the float in the vertical tube
  • the rotameter is a lightweight device, self powered and easy to use
  • at the end of the calibration simply dismantle and store for next use
  • can be used easily and quickly in the field even by inexperienced users
  • should be used to check the flow rate of the pump before (and after) every measurement run to ensure the pump flow has not drifted
  • specify the rotameter AND the stand for correct operation
