* Some users of newer computers with Windows XP installed since the end of 2002 may find that the video CODECs originally supplied with earlier versions of Windows are not now included as standard. In this case you will need to visit this site (get video codecs) to download the necessary drivers for your pc.

Fitting the batteries
  • Hold the sound level meter upside down in one hand.
  • Lift and slide the battery cover down and off from the back panel.
  • Fit 4 x AA cells into the compartment in the back of the case.
  • Make sure that the batteries are installed the right way round.
  • Press the On/Off switch and wait for about 20 seconds.
  • The battery icon in top line at the left should show full.
  • If not, replace all the batteries with new ones.

Switching on
  • Fit a good set of batteries as described above.
  • Press the ON/OFF switch in the top left corner of keypad.
  • The first startup screen will be displayed for about 12 seconds.
  • The second startup screen will be displayed for 5 seconds.
  • The startup routine will finish at the measurement screen.
  • Press the MENU key to change from the last used measurement mode.
  • The display will show the current instantaneous noise levels

Calibrating the instrument
  • Switch On the instrument and allow it to pass all self tests.
  • Fit the calibrator over the microphone and switch it on.
  • The calibration signal will be automatically recognized and the meter will go directly to the calibration screen.
  • Press ENTER key to set the calibration level in the instrument.
  • The Last Cal date and time will be updated to show it is set.
  • Remove microphone from calibrator and switch it off.
  • Press MENU key to show the last used measurement screen.

Making a broadband measurement
  • Switch on and wait for the start  screen to be displayed.
  • If the start screen is the required mode then continue otherwise press the MENU key to go to the selection screen.
  • Cycle round the possible selections using the UP or DOWN arrow keys.
  • Press the ENTER key to choose the required selection.
  • Press the RUN/PAUSE key to start the measurement.
  • Press the STOP key to halt the measurement
  • Press the UP and DOWN arrow keys to flip between the display screens
  • Press STOP again to save the run.

Changing modes
  • Switch on and wait for the start screen to be displayed.
  • Use the UP or DOWN arrow keys to highlight the required mode.
  • Highlight the calibration line to change the auto cal decibel value to set the meter when the acoustic calibrator is used.
  • Highlight the ISO or OSHA line to change between the default measurement modes.
  • Highlight the language line to change the operating language used on screen.
  • Press the ENTER key to return to the measurement screen.

Downloading results to a personal computer
  • Connect the C6724 cable from the instrument to the 9 way RS232 serial port on the computer.
  • Switch on and wait for the start screen to be displayed.
  • Start a copy of CEL PC download software (dB30).
  • Right click on the sound level meter icon and select Download run data....
  • The run data in all memories of the CEL-430 will be downloaded to the pc.
