AIHCE show at Atlanta, May 10 to 12
Casella USA do it again. Two new sound level meters are added
to the popular CEL-400 series of noise instruments. The
CEL-450 and
CEL-490 are developed versions of the CEL-440 and CEL-480 units and feature
an all new design using the computing power of the latest DSP chips. DSP or
Digital Signal Processing has been used in more expensive hand held instruments
such as the CEL-500 series before but now finds its use in these two new models.
Careful design of the analog circuitry in the meters result
in an incredible 140 dB dynamic range! This means that there is no need to worry
about selecting the best range since the meter is always on the right range. No
more worries about overloads or under range signals as the new design covers all
audible sound from 0 right up to 140 dB in one single setting.
The other key feature is the provision of real time octave or
third octave filters giving a 10 or 30 times increase in the speed of
measurements when compared to the older type of serial filters employed by other
meters at these prices. This will speed up the collection of recordings for the
busy hygienist for OSHA compliance surveys. Data capture as fast as 100 spectra
per second enable fast transient noises to be frequency analyzed correctly in
one measurement.
Two key models are available with the CEL-450 aimed at the
industrial hygiene market and the expanded CEL-490 model finding use in longer
term environmental monitoring. Models complying with both ANSI type 1 and type 2
are available with a choice of sound level meter broadband only or broad band
and octaves or third octaves.
A companion Windows software package called dB23 comes with
each of the kits providing download to a personal computer running the popular MS Windows
operating system. Kits are
provided with all the items needed to make high quality noise measurements at a
remarkable low cost.
