Casella USA have announced the launch of the
new version of the popular Apex air sampling pump. Called the Apex Lite, the
unit is available in 2 versions; with or without user programmability for
automatically delayed start and stop times using the built in real time clock
functions. Additionally, the Apex Lite Pro version has a useful TWA mode for
difficult measurements over a period of time.
The Apex Lite
is now available with a thicker window over the LCD to protect against the
possibility of knocks during prolonged heavy use. The pump is also fitted with a
foam filter on the inlet port to prevent the ingress of external debris or heavy
pieces of dust that could clog the pump motor. Finally, the body molding has
been changed from the standard yellow of previous versions to the new ruggedized
black color with a rubberized feel for added security in the field. The original
yellow versions will now signify the intrinsically safe models in the Casella
pump range.
The Lite versions of the Apex pumps are fitted
with a set of 4 AA size alkaline batteries that can provide long sampling
intervals up to 45 hours run time at a flow rate of 2 l/m with a 25mm GFA filter
in the cassette. These pumps are intended for the casual user who may not need
to use them very often through the year and does not need the benefits of
rechargeable battery packs. However, the alkaline pack can be easily swapped for
a long life NiMH pack that takes only a few hours to recharge and can be
recharged over and over again if required.
The specifications of the Apex Lite remain the
same as the non intrinsically safe Apex model pumps that have been available for
over 4 years now and provide an extremely reliable flow rate up to 5 l/m and
down to 800 ml/m. They can be used with standard low flow adaptors for vapor
monitoring from 5 to 750 ml/m when required.
