EZ does it! Casella CEL engineers have done it again. The popular CEL-200 range of low cost sound level meters now has a new member. The CEL-240 entry level sound level meter has been launched to meet the need for a low cost yet fully compliant basic sound level meter. The new noise meter is based on the digital signal processing (DSP) technology recently introduced in the popular CEL-350 dBadge dosimeter and it offers the new user a really simple way to make simple noise measurements with the minimum of fuss. With its small size and low weight it is a culmination of all that Casella CEL has learned over the last three and a half decades of designing quality noise meters for the requirements of industrial hygiene users all over the world. The CEL-240 features an instantaneous sound level display and a non-decaying maximum hold on a number of displays showing the A or C frequency weighting with the Slow, Fast or Impulse time response. A large dot matrix LCD is provided to show the noise levels numerically, on a bar graph or on a time history trace showing the trend in the last 1 or 5 minutes of the measurement. The CEL-240 "EZ does it" will be an attractive instrument for those users who need just a simple meter yet still need to be sure that they have one that is fully compliant with all the national and international accuracy standards.

The new sound level meter has all of the features expected in a simple instrument plus some that are not even found in instruments twice the price. These include a large graphic LCD display, an automatic calibration and a simple digital output to a laptop computer for simple data logging applications. The instrument will show the last 1 minute or last 5 minutes trend of noise to allow the user to make sense of what is happening now. This makes it very easy to see significant events when noise levels change from a lower background value. The meter is available on its own or as part of a full measurement kit (CEL-240/K1) with a matching acoustic calibrator and other accessories. A K2 kit also provides a USB cable and new dB24 computer software that allows the 1 second sound values to be captured and saved to the hard drive.
