Casella USA have announced a significant update to the environmental enclosure for the Microdust Pro real time particulate monitor.

Called the "Dust Detective" the new enclosure allows a Microdust Pro real time dust monitor to be used in extended measurement situations where particulate concentrations must be monitored for more than a usual 8 hour working day. Based on the earlier environmental enclosure the new Dust Detective replaces the older Casella Vortex sampling pump with the new Apex Lite unit that runs off a set of alkaline cells making the whole system able to last for at least 18 hours continuously in the field.

The inlet of the enclosure has the facility to fit polyurethane foam (PUF) filters into the line to provide a size selective choice for the measurements. The necessary adaptor to fit over the optical probe of the Microdust is included and all the necessary tubing and cassettes for the simultaneous collection of PM10, PM2.5 or respirable fractions of dust to be measured are supplied with the kit. Real time measurements with the Microdust Pro and an overall gravimetric result using the Apex Lite sampling pump enable a time history to be obtained to show the changing concentrations over time and a sample for later analysis in the laboratory.

The new Dust Detective enclosure kit just needs to have the Microdust and the Apex pump fitted and measurements can begin. If required, the regular Apex fitted with a rechargeable NiMH battery pack can also be used in the case to extend the usefulness of the entire kit for multiple tasks.

With the Microdust and the Apex pump able to run off their own batteries there is no need for the rechargeable lead acid battery pack and charger circuit so the new Dust Detective is a lightweight solution to extended real time dust and particulate measurements. It's even available at an attractive price and saves over $200 compared to the previous version.
