EZ does it! Again.. Casella CEL engineers have done it again. The new mid range sound level meters now have a new format and features a full color screen. The CEL-600 range has been introduced to meet the need for simple to use mid range type 1 and type 2 sound level meters. The new noise meters are based on the digital signal processing (DSP) technology recently introduced in the popular CEL-350 dBadge dosimeter and offer the new or experienced user a really simple way to make comprehensive noise measurements with the minimum of fuss. With their small size and low weight they are a culmination of all that Casella CEL has learned over the last three and a half decades of designing quality noise meters for the requirements of industrial hygiene users all over the world. The CEL-620B model is the first in the family and features an integrating meter with real time octave band frequency analysis. Also featured are maximum, minimum and peak hold together with the 3 and 5 dB exchange rate averaging functions. The meter has the A, C and Z frequency weightings with the Slow, Fast and Impulse time responses that are all measured simultaneously. A large full color dot matrix LCD is provided to show the noise levels numerically, on a bar graph or on a time history trace showing the trend in the last 1 or 5 minutes of the measurement. Octave band measurements are shown as a standard histogram and as a list of noise levels in tabular format. The CEL-620 octave band meter will be the perfect tool for all industrial hygienists that need to measure the noise levels in the workplace. Both type 1 precision and type 2 general purpose accuracy instruments will be available for those users who need just a simple meter yet still need to be sure that they have one that is fully compliant with all the national and international accuracy standards.

The new sound level meter has all of the features expected in a mid range instrument plus some that are not even found in instruments twice the price. These include a large full color quarter VGA graphic LCD display, an automatic calibration and a simple digital output to a laptop computer for simple data logging applications. The instrument will show the last 1 minute or last 5 minutes trend of noise to allow the user to make sense of what is happening now. This makes it very easy to see significant events when noise levels change from a lower background value. It is not necessary to choose the settings for a measurement because the CEL-600 series will measure everything simultaneously for later download to a computer. When connected to a computer via a high speed USB 2.0 cable the meter appears as a standard memory card device and all the run information can be accessed using the usual drag and drop features of MS Windows. The meter is available on its own or as part of a full measurement kit (CEL-620.B2/K1) with a matching acoustic calibrator and other accessories. Other kits are also available depending on the user's needs.
